The book is a translation, revised by John and Sheila Kippley, the founders of CCL, of the Czech edition published in 2006. This is in turn a revised translation of the original Slovak edition published in 2005. The founders give the following endorsement of the book:

As the title indicates, it is a concise manual. The authors have taken the key information from our longer manual, The Art of Natural Family Planning, included other information from European sources, and produced a manual that is concise and still very complete.
Natural family planning touches on the most important areas in the lives of married couples - love, marriage, faith, sexuality, family and child rearing. We are pleased that this manual is not just about the details of fertility and infertility but also encompasses these other important and rich dimensions of married life.
We hope that this book will be widely used, not only in Slovakia, but further afield too.

The book is intended principally as a basis for translation into further European (and other) languages. It could then act as a unifying factor in the existing CCL branches in Europe. Its conciseness lends itself to ease and rapidity of translation, minimises production costs and so makes the manual eminently suitable as an instrument for setting up new CCL branches in additional countries.

The book contains 128 pages, measures 159 x 234 mm (6.3 x 9.2"), set in 12pt Souvenir with two-colour printing.

Practical Applications Workbook

The workbook contains 18 charts, on which CCL course participants practice applying the STM rules to standard and exceptional cycle charts. They are equally suitable for home study. At the beginning there is a summary of definitions, technical terms and rules. The first chart is a model STM record with the correct analysis drawn in in red. The correct interpretation and analysis of the other charts is at the end of the booklet. The workbook contains 48 pages and has the same format as the manual.

The manual and workbook are joined by a removable paper band and are supplied only together as a single unit.

Sympto-thermal observation charts

The chart booklet is the same size as the manual and workbook, but in landscape format. The charts take up two pages each. A summary of the rules is included. The 14 blank charts usually suffice for a year’s records.

As stated, these books are primarily intended for translation purposes, so that the print-run is only 100 copies. However, if anyone is interested in obtaining a copy, the suggested minimum donation (to cover printing and shipping costs) is: for US residents $30, for UK residents 16 pounds and for Irish residents 20 euro.
